An internship is basically putting to practical use the theories that have been learnt and the knowledge that has been gained during the course of one's education. Hence, this opportunity is basically for students who wish to pursue a professional career in their chosen field of education. They have a variety of options to select from. The internship opportunities can start from maybe a non- profit organization to one of the biggest companies or an MNC in any given field.
The most apt time to choose an internship and work abroad is during your studies or immediately after you have graduated. This will give you a hands on experience in your chosen area of work. In fact, there are several professions where internships are a must especially in the medical field. Studying to be a surgeon, a dentist or then a general practitioner requires a lot of practice before one can set up their own clinic. Similarly, in the case of lawyers, accountants, advertising, management, and more; an internship is something that actually tests the knowledge of whatever an individual has learnt.
They are generally for a short period of time. The internships can start from a week and can also go up to a year’s time. The shorter ones can be done during a summer or a winter break meaning while you are still studying. The internships that require a longer time commitment, can be taken up as soon as you graduate.
Most of the interns do not get paid. However, there are some countries and companies who might just pay their interns, which is known as a stipend. Most of the time it is a small amount as the interns are more of trainees but the experience gained during the internships would be unforgettable.
